Floors

Great variety and quality is evident in the flooring designs of this period too: designs based on the repetition of a module, asymmetric rectilinear designs reminiscent of De Stijl, stripes, linearity, triangles, and more, and all with fine execution. The materials are usually all kinds of stones except granite (which was reserved for external areas and used in an unpolished state). For apartment floors, 30 x 30 cm terrazzo tiles of a variety of colours and stone chip sizes were the norm. Such variety and richness in the floors invigorated the individual’s experience. In Jomhouri (Republic) street many interesting flooring designs are still evident in the shops and the semi- public spaces of the arcades (“passages”). In contrast, there is no quality in the floors made today. They are all made of the same enigmatic material, something that is neither stone, nor plastic, nor ceramic. And there is no trace of anything resembling the fine earlier interiors of the street either. Shop signs are digital prints, of not less than 3 meters in height! And what do they sell? Without exception, LCDs and mobile phones! (PURGATORY?)\\

The red quadrants are not square! - parallelograms actually.
