The beautiful building of Hasht Behesht is probably the small- est Safavid pavilion as well as one of the most glorious existent residential buildings of the Kings of this dynasty. The octagonal structure is built in two storeys and enjoys four facades decorat- ed with brickwork and glazed tiles. The ground floor is about two meters higher than the ground level. The rooms are located on the four corners enjoying beautiful fresco and gypsum works. On the first floor, a combination of porticos and openings to the sur- rounding high Ivans with miniature mosaic ornaments decorate the space. At the center of the main building there is an exquisite octagonal marble pond called Morvarid (Pearl) pond. Stone carv- ings and holes devised in stone renders the drops of waters as pearls falling down from the pond. One of the rare characteristics of Hasht Behesht is its full elegant decorated facades on all sides. The building does not turn its back to the garden in any direction. Although very similar in form, each of these facades has a different design. The Eastern and Northern facades are of greater importance and the presence of the reflecting pool on the Eastern wing renders this façade as the main side of the building.
