Barin Ski Resort in Shemshak, Tehran Province, was designed by Abbas Riahi Fard and Farinaz Razavi Nikoo of RYRA Studio, receiving Second Place in the Public Buildings category at the 11th Memar Award (2011). The project draws inspiration from the natural forms of mountainous terrain and snow-covered undulations to create an entirely new spatial experience. The design of Barin establishes a deep connection with Iranian vernacular architecture through the use of soft forms and fluid movement from floor to ceiling. The smooth, continuous interior surfaces create an organic and flowing space that harmonizes with the surrounding mountainous landscape while connecting with contemporary world architecture. The designers' skill in remaining faithful to the project's foundational principles in both the overall design and its details, including custom furniture design, stands as one of the work's most prominent features. During the jury deliberations, Kamran Afshar Naderi praised the project for its "relevance to the subject and proximity in form to the mountains," "creation of an entirely new spatial experience," "forward-looking approach," and "skill in remaining faithful to the project foundations," recognizing it as an example of the connection between Iranian vernacular architecture and contemporary world architecture.
