A minaret atop a portal fragment is the only remaining piece of a larger structure whose remains, much more extensive at the time, were documented by Flandin in the first half of the nineteenth century. This minaret was most probably one of a pair on the monumental portal of a mosque or madrasa. Traces of the iwan entrance and a stairwell are in evidence. The north face of the portal fragment is decorated with large geometric kufic letters in blue glazed brick on a background of uncolored fired brick. Faience decoration on the minaret dates construction to 1330-50. Sources:E. Flandin, Relation du Voyage, Paris 1851Donald N.
