Ottawa Mosque

The Ottawa Muslim Association was founded in 1962, and in early years members met in local churches and community members' homes. In 1973, it was announced that a new purpose-built mosque would be constructed on Northwest Avenue designed by the Toronto architect Ghazi Anwar Asad. Construction began in 1977.The building is brick with windows arranged in large semicircular expanses. It has a large traditional dome over the prayer hall and a 115-foot minaret. The two-story prayer hall can accommodate up to 700 people. The building also has a library and a basement used for meetings, childcare, and social events.Sources:City of Ottawa.
