The Tehran Bar Association building, designed by S. Hadi Mirmiran of Naghshe Jahan Pars Consulting Engineers, won first place at the 3rd Memar Award (2003). Located on Alvand Street near Argentina Square in Tehran, the building is distinguished by its striking copper-clad facade that creates a bold presence in the urban streetscape while maintaining an introspective quality through its central courtyard.
The jury praised the building's masterful handling of the site axis, noting how it generates spatial richness through the dialogue between public and private realms. The central void — a glazed atrium rising through the full height of the building — connects all levels visually while flooding interior spaces with natural light. The transparent facade mediates between the city outside and the contemplative interior, achieving both civic presence and professional privacy.
The building comprises 5,250 square meters across multiple floors, with a ground floor area of 650 square meters on a 980 square meter site. The attention to material quality — particularly the copper cladding, stone finishes, and glass detailing — demonstrates a commitment to architectural craft that the international jury found exemplary among the competition entries.
