[In] Exterior is an exercise in challenging the relationship between inside and outside in the organization of temporary dwelling space, or the summer villa.
Under conventional conditions, the summer house has adopted a structure similar to a "pavilion in a garden" to maximize the use of natural views, maintaining transparency in its exterior walls.
[In] Exterior is a family villa on the outskirts of Isfahan, situated on a non-urban, flat terrain with no significant views. Consequently, the spatial system of the project has undergone a structural transformation, focusing its gaze inward through two quasi-central interconnected courtyards, while maximizing the interior's transparency toward these courtyards.
The reinterpretation of the interior-exterior relationship is also evident in the project's material treatment. The similarity of the finishing layer in interior and exterior voids perceptually transforms the boundary between inside and outside from a "definitive distinction" to an "ambiguous difference."
This indeterminacy is further intensified by movable spatial elements, such as sliding doors that convert the courtyards from enclosed, private open spaces into semi-enclosed zones.
At the same time, the introduction of semi-enclosed open spaces at the heart of the project enables the spatial separation of private and public functions related to temporary dwelling.
