Charles-Hossein Zenderoudi was born in 1937 (1316 SH) in Tehran. He has lived in Paris since 1961 (1340 SH), and in 1959 (1338 SH) founded the art movement known as “Saqqakhaneh.” He executed the original serigraphy from the original plates for the text of the Holy Quran, commissioned by the French publisher Philippe Lebaud. This work was honoured in 1977 (1356 SH) as “the most beautiful book of the year” by UNESCO, and was reprinted in 1979 (1358 SH). His other famous work is the illustration of Hafez, in the book Dance of Life (1978 / 1357 SH). Zenderoudi has worked in various fields including painting, serigraphy, ceramics, sculpture and carpet-weaving; among his works are the airport installations at Riyadh and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. He has been invited by UNESCO and the Sorbonne University in Paris as a researcher and lecturer.
