Mzara’e Kalantar historical village, a part of central region of Meybod province, is located 11km eastern south of Meybod and 36km from Yazd. Zoroastrians constitute more than 98 per cent of the population of the village. According to local sources, the history of the village dates back to the early days of Islam and the Arab attack on Iran. It seems that due to the height of the vil- lage, it served as a hiding place for Zoroastrians escaping from Arabs. Apparently through time, with the increase of pressure on Zoroastrians and due to proper conditions for habitation, a rural texture was formed here remote from the Muslim society.
