
In 1036 the physician, mathematician and philosopher Ibn Sina (Avicenna) died on a journey from Isfahan to Hamadan, where he had earlier been a vizier. The extant monument was build in the 1950's, and includes a library and museum. The tower on the site is a modern interpretation Ziyarid tomb towers such as the Gunbad-i Qabus. The tomb of Qajar-era poet Abolghassem Aref is located in the courtyard.
