Located just upstream from the Pul-i Qadim or Old Bridge of Dizful are the remains of waterworks, including mills powered by the river's swift current and waterwheels used to supply the city (on the river's left or east bank). These hydraulic works may have originally been part of a larger project sponsored by the Sasanians to construct bridges, weirs, canals, and mills throughout the Khuzistan region.
