Bozorgmehr House in Mashhad, won joint First Place in the Individual Dwellings category at the 15th Memar Award (2015). Designed on a 250-square-meter plot with a total built area of 540 square meters across three floors, the house volume is a response to the architects' reading of the project's context and setting: a busy commercial street in front and a quiet residential alley behind.
The central void of the house, extending from floor to ceiling, is the beating heart of the design. This inner cavity brings light and air to all spaces of the home while establishing visual connections between the different levels. The main staircase wraps around this void, transforming the vertical circulation path into a spatial experience. The building facade, with stepped setbacks on upper floors, makes the volume appear lighter and reduces visual pressure on the public passage. These setbacks also create terraces providing the semi-open space needed by residents. The building materials are a combination of exposed concrete and glass that, while creating visual contrast, maintain the overall volumetric integrity.
