The DA Restaurant and Banquet Hall in Khuzestan was designed by Mehran Kheireddin with a cultural and social approach to hospitality and gathering spaces. Drawing on the indigenous architecture of Khuzestan and the vital elements of water and shade — two essentials in the region's hot and arid climate — the designer created an inviting and refreshingly cool environment that serves as both a dining destination and a social gathering place. The building's structure combines open, semi-open, and enclosed spaces to offer diverse spatial experiences. Water features in the form of pools and fountains, together with natural and artificial shade structures, generate a favorable microclimate within the restaurant space that provides relief from the harsh exterior conditions. Local materials including regional brick and palm wood have been combined with modern steel structures, grounding the building in its geographical context. Wall paintings inspired by the indigenous art and culture of Khuzestan emphasize the building's local identity. This project demonstrates how to create quality public spaces in regions facing severe climatic constraints. DA Restaurant won Third Place in the Public Buildings category at the 18th Memar Award (2018).
