Hanna Boutique Hotel occupies the historic Lolagar complex in Tehran — representing the earliest period of outward-facing construction in the city. The Lolagar alley is a privately owned passage with doors at both ends and a filtering layer between it and the main street. This alley and its six houses constitute the first typology of apartment-building in modern Tehran, with each unit having its own separate entrance. The design continued the original experience of spatial discovery and alley exploration. A glass door in the gallery space has an inviting quality, drawing guests inside, while new cross-sections further aid the discovery of space. The collapsed ceiling of the cistern and the removal of an opening to the former parking area reveal a beautiful section that draws visitors to the project's heart. The architects recognized that such interventions within a historic fabric educate residents about the value of what they possess and the space in which they live. The hotel function required serious seismic reinforcement. The entire load-bearing structure was modelled, with four shear walls and excavated shafts reaching nine metres depth. The Hanna restaurant, outside the old building, is composed of three simple white cubes placed beneath the ground floor — one defining the green entrance space, the other two forming the dining space. Hanna won First Place in the Renovation category at the 19th Memar Award (2019).
