The Islamic Center of Carbondale is a small, one-story building with a rectangular plan and a gabled roof. According to Omar Khalidi, it was built by Eggmeyer Associates Architects, Inc., in the 1980s or early 1990s. It is an example of what Khalidi calls an "innovative" type of American mosque design, with a style that departs entirely from traditional Islamic architecture.
