Japan National Stadium

Seen from outside and from the city, its horizontal presence is striking: apart from the fact that the height of the stadium was not raised beyond what its capacity required, its layered structure and the dominance of horizontal lines have set the body of the stadium humbly on its site. These horizontal lines are perimeter walkways level with the internal floors of the building, which run all around the stadium, and along their outer edges plants have been planted that give the stadium a green and living appearance.
