Pool and Recreation Center

The Pool and Recreation Center in Sari, Mazandaran, designed by Arash Mozafari and Arshia Sholeh, shared fifth place at the 5th Grand Memar Award in 2005. The sports and recreation complex is set within the lush natural landscape of northern Iran, with the design responding sensitively to its forested surroundings.

Mehdi Alizadeh described this as a work of genuine architectural merit. Hadi Tehrani noted the project's sensitivity to its natural setting in Mazandaran, where the humid Caspian climate and abundant vegetation create particular design challenges and opportunities. Nasrin Seraji commented on the interesting spatial sequence that unfolds as visitors move through the building.

The complex integrates indoor pool facilities with outdoor recreation spaces, using a material palette that complements the natural environment. The building's low-slung profile and extended roof planes establish a respectful dialogue with the surrounding treeline.
