This 111-square-metre art studio, built for 33 thousand Canadian dollars, was constrained in both aesthetic and economic respects. It is a combination of the vernacular types of the English hay barn and the local fishing shed. Its overall plan, out of respect for the cultural site, occupies the least fertile edge of the site and has left the farmland untouched. In this respect it is an environmental design project prompted by an architectural commission, emphasising the idea that protecting the land is the architect's first responsibility.
