Saadatabad Residential Building in Tehran by Behrouz Pakdaman has organized a difficult and irregular site well. The play of volumes, color, and different materials is attractive. The attic and rooftop have been turned into subjects for invention, demonstrating creative use of typically neglected building elements.
Critic Kamran Afshar Naderi observed that the rhythm and design of the windows appear several steps behind the volumetric composition and spatial organization of the project — the weakest element in an otherwise inventive design. Despite this gap between the ambitious volumetric work and the conventional window treatment, the project earned recognition. Selected as a Jury Selection at the 2nd Grand Memar Award (2002) in the Apartment Buildings category.
