Saba Apartment in Tehran, won joint Third Place in the Apartment Buildings category at the 15th Memar Award (2015). The building features a double-skin facade that provides residents with control over light and privacy. The outer skin consists of movable wooden panels that residents can open and close according to their needs.
This double-skin system is a response to one of the most critical challenges of apartment living in Tehran: the issue of overlooking. By opening and closing the wooden panels, residents can control the degree of visibility from outside into their units while still benefiting from adequate light and air. The movable wooden panels make the building facade dynamic and variable — depending on how residents of each unit position their panels, the building's appearance changes throughout the day. This mutability distinguishes the building from the typical monotony of Tehran residential facades.
In the interior design, the principle of spatial fluidity has been observed, with living and kitchen spaces designed as open and continuous and rooms connected with minimal corridors.
