Saman Multi-family Residential is an apartment building on the outskirts of Lavasan, Tehran Province, that received a tied 3rd Place in the Apartment Buildings category at the 23rd Memar Award with 5 points. Designed by Ahmad Reza Babashahi, the building consists of 4 residential units with parking and underground levels distributed across 5 floors.
Throughout the entire design process, the effort was to arrive at a model that might serve as an example for apartment houses on the outskirts of the city — one that would not resemble a typical urban apartment while responding to the site's needs without imposing a gravitational or visual burden on its surroundings. In the interior design, every effort was made so that minimal events would occur within the interior space, with nothing drawing the gaze inward — instead directing it outward toward the surrounding landscapes.
Considering the lifestyle, the client's requirements, and the climatic conditions of the region, neighboring spaces were combined with terraces and vertical circulation to create newer, more fluid possibilities for unforeseeable events. The building is organized as a family compound with grandmother's floor, mother's floor, and girls' floor connected by corridors, terraces, and a bridge — a configuration that reflects the intergenerational nature of Iranian family life while maintaining each unit's independence.
