Stair House

Winner of the 1st Place at the 4th Grand Memar Award (2004) for Residential Buildings, the Stair House in Tehran was designed by Ramin Mehdizadeh on a 119-square-meter lot with a built area of 295 square meters. The jury praised the architect's ability to transform a narrow urban lot into a vertically organized dwelling of remarkable spatial quality. The interplay of the staircase as both circulation and living space, combined with the innovative use of materials — particularly the illuminated stone wall — created an architecture of genuine spatial invention. The building contains two residential units and one commercial suite across multiple levels, with the staircase serving as the central organizing element that connects all spaces while allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the interior.
