The 24th Memar Award competition, like previous editions, was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, held as an elimination round on September 5-7, 2024 (Shahrivar 1403), from 303 projects submitted by participants in four categories—Individual Dwellings, Apartment Buildings, Public Buildings, and Renovation—108 projects advanced to the semifinals. The second phase of judging took place on October 7-9, 2024 (Mehr 1403), where 37 projects advanced to the final stage. From these, 10 projects were selected as winners, and 4 projects were deemed worthy of special commendation. The final jury consisted of Mahsa Majidi, Behrouz Pakdaman, Mohammad Mohammadzadeh, Sanjay Kanvinde from India, and Yusuf Patel from South Africa. Patel replaced the originally announced juror Peter Rich, who withdrew the night before his flight to Tehran due to current news and events.
Mohammad Mohammadzadeh is an Iranian architect, critic, and editor born in Tehran in 1973. He graduated from Iran University of Science and Technology in 1999 and founded MOM Architecture Group in 2006. Since 1995, he has worked in architectural design and urban planning, and since 2004 has served as a visiting associate at the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. He has been an active architecture critic and guest lecturer at domestic and international universities and institutions. As chief editor and editorial board member of Memar Magazine since 2000, he has authored more than 50 articles on architecture. He has received awards in numerous national and international design competitions.
Projects are divided into four categories: Apartment Buildings, Individual Dwellings, Public Buildings, and Renovation. The judging follows these stages: (1) All projects in each category are presented to the jury simultaneously; projects unanimously rejected are eliminated, but if even one juror supports a project, it remains. (2) From semifinalists, each juror selects their preferred projects without ranking; projects receiving no juror votes are eliminated. Selected projects become finalists. (3) Each juror independently ranks their top three from the finalists, awarding 3 points for first, 2 for second, and 1 for third. The aggregate scores determine the final rankings. (4) Jurors may nominate finalists for special commendation with a brief written statement; if others agree, the commendation is confirmed.
