Hamidreza Naser Nasir·Memar 5

Shafei, born in Mahabad in 1960 and graduated in architecture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tehran University, has 20 years of continuous professional experience, although he is belonged to the young generation of architects. He has participated actively in the design work of over 60 projects of which almost 30 were built.

Office Complex in Ahwaz

Bijan Shafei says that for him the most important issue is the relationship between architecture and its context. He believes that architecture must maintain a connection with its surroundings, both in terms of culture and climate. In his works, one can observe a strong commitment to regional architecture while at the same time seeking modernity. This office complex in Ahwaz demonstrates these principles. The central courtyard serves as the organizing element, creating a transition between the public street and the private offices. The use of brick and the color palette are inspired by the local materials and architectural tradition of Khuzestan province.

A Villa in Fardis, Karaj (1997–98)

The villa in Fardis, Karaj is perhaps the most personal of Shafei's works. Located in the garden city of Fardis, the house responds to the dual need for privacy and connection to the outdoors. The white plastered walls, punctuated by bold red accents and geometric cutouts, give the building a distinctively modern appearance while the massing recalls traditional Iranian garden pavilions.

The circular staircase, with its eye-shaped window, is one of the most striking features. The building rises from the garden landscape with its sloping rooflines creating a dynamic silhouette. The use of natural stone for the base grounds the building in its site.

Branch Office of OCE Co. in Tehran

This commercial building on a prominent Tehran street demonstrates Shafei's ability to work at an urban scale. The bold use of orange horizontal bands against the glass and metal facade gives the building a strong visual identity. The main entrance features a dramatic cantilevered canopy supported by sculptural columns. The floor plans allow for flexible subdivision of office and commercial space.
