1st Place (Shared): Bozorgmehr House, Mashhad

Bozorgmehr House in Mashhad is designed on a 250-square-meter plot with a total built area of 540 square meters across three stories. The massing of the house is a response to our reading of the context and fabric of the project: a busy commercial street in front, and a quiet residential alley at the rear.

The central void of the house, extending from floor to ceiling, is the beating heart of the design. This core cavity delivers light and air to all spaces within the home while establishing visual connections between the different floors. The main staircase wraps around this void, transforming the vertical circulation into a spatial experience.

The building facade, with its stepped setbacks on the upper floors, lightens the overall massing and reduces the visual pressure on the public thoroughfare. These recessions also create terraces that provide the semi-open spaces needed by the residents.

The materials are a combination of exposed concrete and glass, which, while creating visual contrast, maintain the overall unity of the volume. The construction details have been carefully designed to ensure harmony between the structure and the building envelope.
