Kamran Afshar Naderi is a forty-three-year-old architect, a graduate of Italy who is so far known above all for his many essays in architectural criticism and theory. Between 1986 and 1993 he was occupied with architectural design in Italy, collaborating with a number of architectural offices, including the office of Renzo Piano.
Afshar Naderi has been resident in Iran since 1993 and has, in that time, taken on the design and management of architectural projects — and, in particular, of restoration and interior architecture, both in Iran and in Italy. Among his recent works one may cite the design and supervision of the Bibi Confectionery Factory (at the skeleton phase); the Formosa family villa in Gargano, Italy; and the restoration of the Qajar-period buildings of the Italian Embassy in Tehran.
In this issue, the refurbishment of an office tower into the new headquarters of a multinational company in Tehran is presented as the principal project of this feature, undertaken jointly with the Italian architect Nunzia Rondanini.
