Lamkadeh Furniture Facade, Tehran

2nd Place (Tied) — Renovation

The Lamkadeh furniture building sits in a dense, uniform, flat urban fabric beside the Resalat Expressway. Its existing facade was covered with 30-year-old horizontal white travertine. The client asked to renovate this facade with a budget of about 30 million toman.

The building envelope is one of architecture's most fundamental elements. The main objective was exploring the relationship between surface and depth within the available 40cm potential. The project was shaped by analyzing the existing facade grid in the surrounding context and transforming it into a new three-dimensional grid. Materials used are white porcelain ceramic for surfaces and natural Finnish thermo-wood for depths, dry-fitted via aluminum substructure to the existing steel frame.
