Khavaran Cultural Center is a multifunctional cultural complex located in one of the poorest neighborhoods of southeastern Tehran. The center accommodates commercial, cultural, educational, and recreational functions, including a bazaar, library, amphitheater, prayer hall, porticos, and open courtyards. Criticized by Kamran Afshar Naderi in Memar Magazine Issue 27 for its exaggerated entrance, inconsistent material combinations, and tensions between traditional Iranian motifs and modern construction, the center nonetheless represents Tehran's successful model of cultural centers as beloved gathering spaces for citizens across social classes.
