Bazaar Restaurant, Tehran — 3rd Place: Renovation

3rd Place: Bazaar Restaurant, Tehran
Organizing the Building's Exterior: The area surrounding the building in the dead-end alley suffered from visual clutter and the gathering of nuisance individuals. To reduce visual pollution, we designed a simple facade and extended it as a false front to one of the main lines adjacent to the building. The wall opposite the building also had significant visual disorder, which we addressed through a mural painting so that, in addition to resolving the external visual disturbances, users inside would face a pleasant view.
In front of the building, the presence of a street vendor was causing the gathering of nuisance individuals, a problem shared by the surrounding neighbors. Accordingly, we proposed to the client to provide employment for the vendor within the restaurant. With the vendor working at the restaurant, a major part of the problem was resolved. Through the combined measures taken — the wall painting and the vendor's employment — the alley achieved a notable sense of calm and order.
