Jury Report: 17th Memar Award

The 17th Memar Award competition was held with 311 submitted projects across two rounds of judging. In the first round, 134 projects advanced to the semifinal stage. The second round of judging took place on October 7-8, 2017 (Mehr 15-16, 1396) with jurors Hossein Sheikh Zeineddin, Reza Daneshmir, Ali Kermanian, Rambod Ilkhani, and Zhi Wenjun from China.

On the first day, the jury selected 60 projects as finalists from the 134 semifinalists. On the second day, after extensive discussion on the finalist projects, 25 projects were selected as winners and honoured entries.

Judging Criteria

  • Creativity and innovation in design, and innovation in the use of building materials and technology
  • Creative response to specific project challenges including economic constraints, special site conditions, legal regulations, and technical difficulties
  • Precision and innovation in detail design
  • Attention to the surrounding environment, climatic conditions, environmental values, and social commitments

Judging Method

All projects were divided into four categories: Apartment Buildings, Individual Dwellings, Public Buildings, and Renovation. Each juror independently ranked their top three choices per category. First place received 3 points, second place 2 points, and third place 1 point.

Individual Dwellings Results

1st: Cheshm Cheran Villa (7 pts) | 2nd: Vanoosh Villa (6 pts), Villa No. 30 (6 pts) | 3rd: Safadasht Dual (4 pts)

Apartment Buildings Results

1st: Khab-e-Aram (7 pts) | 2nd: 111 Apartment (6 pts), Manzarieh (6 pts) | 3rd: Small House (4 pts), Malek (4 pts)

Renovation Results

1st: Aaban Kitchen (9 pts) | 2nd: Nabshi Gallery (8 pts) | 3rd: Tabriz & Keraben Tiles (5 pts)

Public Buildings Results

1st: Tehran Book Garden (15 pts) | 2nd: Presence in Hormoz (6 pts) | 3rd: Cube Club (3 pts), Teh Bagh Restaurant (3 pts)

The ceremony was held in October 2017 with Mehrdad Yousefi (Superpipe International) and Kamran Afshar Naderi alongside the jury panel.
