A test for architectural quality would be the appearance – at night – without the aid of ap- plied lighting. A contrived form might become menacing at night – close to a creature from a nightmare. In the present ambience, as in a nightmare or a state of illness when colours too are transformed in the mind, amusement arcade lighting concepts are employed in or- der to get the closest to the nightmarish (sub- consciously of course). In a good architec- ture, the transparent or translucent surfaces become most striking at night, as in a lantern, and in particular in the architecture presented here, the delicate lines and the intriguing divi- sion systems of planes attract the eye. The continuous surfaces of such architecture en- gage even the humblest of municipal street light, and possibly elevate its light to the realm of poeticity.
