A major sports complex built for the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran. Includes a 100,000-seat stadium (inspired by Mexico City University stadium, with a compacted earth bed creating a lake alongside), a 17,000-capacity indoor stadium (structural drawings from SOM California), indoor swimming pool, indoor practice stadium, clay pigeon shooting range, and cycling stadium. Designed in just 17 months under Farmanfarmaian's supervision, managed by Reza Majd and Hirbod, with collaboration from Nader Ardalan. Construction by Tesa company (Majid A'lam) in consortium with French contractor Bouygues, with structural designs revised by engineer Pierre Richard using prestressed and precast concrete.
