Passway for Kalat-e-Koshtaran, Qeshm — 2nd Place: Renovation
2nd Place: Passway for Kalat-e-Koshtaran, Qeshm Island Location: Qeshm Island, Kalat-e-Koshtaran Village Client: Hormozgan Cultural Heritage Organization / Design associates: Zohreh Dadres / Construction: Hossein Ashouri / Built area: 150 sqm Zahra Ghannad The Passway for Kalat-e-Koshtaran project on Qeshm Island is a minimal intervention within the village's historic fabric. By preserving the structure of narrow, winding alleys and restoring stone and mud walls, the designer has created a safe and accessible route for residents and tourists alike. Interventions in pathway paving, restoration of sabat (covered passage) roofs, and the creation of rest points along the route were carried out without altering the identity and spirit of the place. The use of local materials including coral stone and mud, and the employment of indigenous construction techniques, have ensured the project's continuity with the village's historic fabric. This project demonstrates that renovation and revitalization can, with minimal intervention and respect for the existing fabric, improve residents' quality of life while preserving the site's historical and cultural values.
