Established in 1977 by His Highness the Aga Khan, the Aga Khan Award for Architecture recognizes architectural excellence in projects that serve the needs of societies where Muslims have a significant presence. Unlike most architecture awards, it rewards not only architects but also clients, builders, and communities who have contributed to the built environment. The award is given every three years and carries a prize of $1 million shared among the winning projects.
