3rd Place (Shared): Saba Apartment, Tehran

Saba Residential Apartment is designed with a dual-skin facade that provides residents with control over natural light and privacy. The outer skin is composed of movable wooden panels that residents can open and close according to their needs.

This dual-skin system is a response to one of the most significant challenges of apartment living in Tehran: the issue of visual exposure. By adjusting the wooden panels, residents can control the degree of visibility from outside into their units while still enjoying sufficient light and ventilation.

The movable wooden panels make the building facade dynamic and variable. Depending on how the residents of each unit position their panels, the face of the building changes throughout the day. This mutability distinguishes the building from the typical monotony of residential facades in Tehran.

The interior design of the units also observes the principle of spatial fluidity. The living and kitchen areas are designed as open, continuous spaces, and the rooms are connected to one another with minimal corridor space.
