11TH MEMAR AWARD - RENOVATION - SECOND PLACE
Golabdareh House
Memar 70 | Dec-Jan 2011-2012
Jury Commentary
Mehdi Alizadeh: Brilliant beautification in three aspects: material selection, design approach (preserving the existing condition), and updating the function, which has enriched the activities in the project space.
Seyyed Reza Hashemi: For preserving and modernizing an elaborate, labyrinthine and crumbling very old building with harmonious materials and designs and elegant, unpretentious interventions. The dominance of a functional and minimalist gaze over the restoration measures, which naturally requires artistic and art-critical vision and skill, is a reminder of the spirit of Iranian architecture.
Kamran Afshar Naderi: Attention to and revitalization of a rural building that in most cases is unfortunately subject to destruction and violation. Preserving the appearance and atmosphere of a building that is among the important elements of the hillside village landscape. Preserving the spirit of the building in both the overall and detailed aspects. Skill in controlling space and details with minimum necessary intervention.
