The inaugural issue of Memar Magazine, founded by Soheila Beski in the summer of 1998. Covers a wide range of topics: the editorial manifesto on architectural discourse, Kamran Afshar Naderi on the state of Iranian architecture, a profile of Farokh Ghahremanpour's works, a comprehensive critique of the Hafeziyeh Guesthouse in Shiraz (with its construction details), Federico Soriano's theoretical essay on deep and anamorphic plans, a special dossier on architecture competitions in Iran and internationally (with contributions from Soheila Beski and Hadi Mirmiran), international selections including the Alvar Aalto centennial, Frank Gehry's Bilbao Guggenheim, Francesco Venezia's Picardy University Center, and Peter Davey on democratising the tectonic, plus book reviews, student competitions, interior design, and letters about Kamran Diba's Shushtar New Town.
